Parent involvement

Frequently asked questions

Q: Nowadays, it seems that there is a graduation ceremony for everything – daycare, kindergarten, grades 6,8,12, etc. They can be expensive for families and often require parents to take time off work – what can we do about it? Harish S.

Dear Harish,

Graduation celebrations at many levels have become more common over the past several years. You are right that these can impose hardships on some families, and may also water down the celebration of more significant achievements. This is an issue that you can discuss with the school council. While some families cherish these events, there may be other options that will work better for everyone – perhaps a less formalized celebration such as an end-of-year picnic, with no requirements for dressing up, or something like that.
