Janet DeRuiter
Janet DeRuiter says that, “My childhood in Zimbabwe, where education was not available equally, and my adolescence in Britain, with its history of private school education, led me to passionately believe that equal, accessible, good public education for all is the foundation of a civil society.”
Janet has been a member of People for Education’s Board of Directors since 2004. After studying at Cambridge University and the University of Toronto, Janet now works as a psychiatrist with oncology patients and their families at a hospital in Toronto. She has also volunteered as a spinning instructor at the YMCA. She is the mother of four teenagers.
